ABSTRACT

This analysis examines the ethical challenges posed by the growing integration of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) in teacher education, aiming to outline possible pathways for the construction of a critical-reflective teaching practice. The justification lies in the urgency of moving beyond a purely instrumental and technicist view of GAI, understanding it as a phenomenon that reshapes pedagogical practices and raises ethical questions. The adopted methodology is a qualitative bibliographic review grounded in a critical analysis that articulates contributions from the philosophy of technology and education. The theoretical framework draws on the works of Luciano Floridi, Álvaro Vieira Pinto, and Vani Kenski, among others, with reflections on the use of technologies in educational contexts. The analysis highlights the need for a critical approach in teacher education so that teachers not only use GAI but also question its assumptions, effects, and implications, going beyond mere instrumental use. It argues that the integration of GAI in teacher education is ethically acceptable only when subordinated to critical-formative mediations that preserve intellectual authorship, teacher agency, and an emancipatory educational project rather than a logic of technical efficiency and data control. Thus, it proposes a formative approach grounded in the development of a “critical awareness” of technology.
